On 4 and 5 November the Young Academies of Europe will meet again. In Brussels, representatives of all Young Academies in Europe (currently Sweden, Norway, Germany, Scotland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Montenegro) will organize a meeting to discuss topics concerning scientific research and academic careers on a European level.

This year’s meeting will include a discussion on the possibilities to improve the career facilities of young European scholars across Europe. The main topics of this year’s discussion will be the discrepancy in career possibilities for young scholars in different countries, the availability of EU funding, and the international collaboration among excellent scientists.

Furthermore, we would also like to tackle the question of interdisciplinary research and the diversity of scientific research. How does the Commission deal with the diversity of disciplines when planning general funding possibilities (such as Horizon 2020)? Which are the factors taken into account by the Commission when it tries to find the balance between fundamental and applied research? Undoubtedly, a debate on these issues with young scientists in all fields can generate inspiring ideas for all parties involved.
